Town Orders West Babylon Home Boarded Back Up

Previously boarded up home ordered shuttered again by town board after break-ins.

The Town of Babylon has ordered a West Babylon home to be shuttered again after multiple break-ins were recorded to the vacant home.

The home at 8 Joan Place in West Babylon has been empty for over a year, leading to the town having it boarded up for safety reasons and to stop squatters from finding their way in.

However, some people did find their way in through a loose board over the back doorway recently, leading to an arrest for drug-dealing at the home, according to Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer.

"It is causing a real hazard," Schaffer noted during the December 16 town board meeting.

According to the property inspection report, completed November 15, the back door was not secured any longer and the padlock on the front door had been broken open.

Schaffer told neighbors of home in attendance he would be sending the town engineer to do a full report on the property, including checking on any conditions that could cause harm to the public such as mold growth inside.

The resolution to board the home back up passed unanimously during the meeting.
