Village Notebook: Restaurant Revamps Approved; Ongoing Parking Woes

The Village Board gives the nod to two restaurant applications and the Chamber of Commerce deals with ongoing village parking issues.

This week the Babylon Village trustees okay'ed two restaurant applications, both for new establishments replacing closed eateries. was approved for the Lucy's Bistro alleyway location, as was a new seafood restaurant to be called , replacing The Hook.

A new restaurant application has been submitted for the location formerly housing Bistro 111. The applicant, doing business as The Hrisho Group from Holbrook, will present their application during a public hearing on Tuesday, May 8 at 7 p.m.

The Babylon Village board also adopted a new amendment to the village parking code, which will add no parking signs during special events.

The code allows for "The restriction of parking by posting temporary No Parking signs on certain streets during any special event" and "The restriction of traffic flow or the directional flow of traffic on any particular roadway within the Village of Babylon during a special event."

Chamber of Commerce Recap

The Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for this year's Spring Fling sidewalk sale, which will also feature live music and local artists. The three-day event includes a preview on Friday, June 1, and the main event taking place on Saturday June 2, and Sunday June 3. Rain postpones until the next weekend.

With increasing restaurant patrons visting the village at night, parking remains a concern for village business owners, Jon Taylor, owner of and Chamber vice president, remarked at a recent Chamber meeting.

Taylor reported that was the site of illegal restaurant parking and that the church has requested that the village enforcement officers inspect the lot after hours. Unauthorized vehicles parking after 10 p.m. will be ticketed.

Chamber vice president Wally Levins reports that the Chamber is working on plans to add enhanced signage to encourage shoppers and restaurant-goers to use the municipal lots. The village is also working on replacing faded and unreadable signs.
