Village Pool Didn't Escape Irene's Wrath

Despite huge sand piles left by the tropical storm village officials had the popular facility open for swimming shortly after Irene's visit.

Babylon Village officials could have very easily just decided to put the winter cover on its popular pool facility right after Hurricane Irene's nasty visit two weeks ago.

But they didn't and residents got the chance to enjoy the last few weeks of summer at the bay side facility.

According to village officials Irene dumped 40 to 60 yards of sand in the pool location's parking lot and quite a bit in the pool.

It took two and half days of vacuuming to get it back in shape for resident enjoyment, said Village Trustee Anthony Davida.

“There was so much sand in the pool’s playground area that only the cement turtle’s head could be seen after the storm,” he said.
