West Babylon Boy Scouts Donate Comic Books to Injured Soldiers

Legislator Horsley's "Super Heroes for Our Heroes" comic book drive collected 30,000 comic books for wounded soldiers.

Boy Scout Troop 175 in West Babylon joined a comic book drive effort spearheaded by Suffolk County Legislator Wayne Horsley, contributing 1,600 comic books to the cause. The troop, led by Patrick Murray, received a visit from Leg. Horsley, where he collected the boys' donations.

The idea for the "Super Heroes for Our Heroes" drive came from Lindenhurst resident and Vietnam veteran Joe Ingino, who suggested a visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Legislator Horsley commented in a press release that he came up with the comic book idea because “comics could provide a bit of light reading that hopefully would lift their spirits and bring a smile to their faces.”

The Lindenhurst Chamber of Commerce cosponsored the drive, which collected 30,000 comic books.

“The response we’ve had to this drive is simply amazing” Horsley stated. “Our initial goal was to bring 2,000 comic books to our wounded warriors at Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, MD."

"The generosity of our residents proves how much we admire and appreciate our service members for their dedication and their commitment. This response reinforces the support Suffolk County has for members of our military who fight for us every single day.”
