Babylon Board of Education Meeting Notes: July 23rd

The Board of Education passed a number of resolutions at this past week's board meeting.

The Babylon School District Board of Education met for their second monthly meeting in July and passed a number of resolutions for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year.

Among these resolutions passed, all unanimously, were:

  • Adoption of new Board Meeting schedule, with Monday meetings now starting at 7:30 p.m. instead of 7:00 p.m. starting on September 10th. Members noted this was to allow for more time for the board to discuss items before meetings and for parents to show up to the meetings.
  • The November 5th meeting had been originally rescheduled due to a conflict with Open School Night, but the board and district have rescheduled the latter event.
  • The board authorized the superintendent to, in the case of emergency situations, make conditional appointments of coaches, advisors, support staff and/or professional staff other than administrators for the upcoming school year when the Board is unable to meet. The board retained the ability to confirm or terminate the employment of those individuals at the next regular meeting.
  • The board appointed new curriculum coordinators for the upcoming school year:
    • English – Lisa Drance
    • Foreign Language – Michelle Scharff
    • Mathematics – John Michele
    • Practical Arts – Claire Reilly
    • Science – Kristen Parris-Dixon
    • Social Studies – Christopher Ryan
  • The board also appointed the new directors for the upcoming school year:
    • Fine Arts K-12 – Angela Turk
    • Guidance 7-12 – Tracy Lesnick
    • Discipline 7-12 – Michael Collins
    • Special Education – Lisa Consolo
  • The board named the following people as part of the Administrative Assistants for the upcoming school year:
    • Junior-Senior High School – Richard Villanueva and Teresa Collins
    • Grade School: Heather Hosek and Cathy O'Connor
    • Co-Assistants Elementary School: Lisa Lindeman and Patricia Stork
  • The board approved a number of other positions in a single vote including new coaches for Fall sports, trainers, comittee members and physicans.

The new meeting of the Babylon Board of Education will be on Monday, August 20th, 2012 at the Babylon Junior-Senior High School Library at 7:00 p.m.
