Babylon Grade School principal Dr. Randee Bonagura is headed to a new school come this fall.

The Wantagh Board of Education approved the appointment of Dr. Randee Bonagura as new principal at Wantagh Elementary School during its Thursday night meeting. Bonagura has served as principal at Babylon Memorial Grade School since the summer of 2011.

Bonagura was hired at a salary of $135,000 to replace longtime Wantagh Elementary School Principal Dr. Donald Sternberg, who announced his retirement in February. She previously spent five years in the Wantagh School District as a supervisor of supportive reading from 2005-2010.

“I’m honored and so excited to be back to Wantagh, which is really what I consider my professional home,” said Bonagura at Thursday’s school board meeting. “I know I have big shoes to fill and I plan to do my best and do a great job here.”

Babylon will also lose its current Babylon Elementary School principal, Dana Basile, at the end of the current school year. Basile announced her resignation in April.
