Babylon HS PTSA Updates: Scholarship Available, Plant Sale Soon

The Babylon HS PTSA will be holding its annual plant sale throughout the end of the month.

The Babylon High School Parent-Teacher-Student Association sent out its most recent newsletter, with several important updates for the district.

  • The Defensive Driving Courses scheduled for March 14 and 21 have been cancelled. The PTSA will be looking to hold a future course again; the course costs $34 and helps reduce your insurance costs by 10 percent or take three points off of your license.
  • The PTSA Scholarship application is available in the Babylon Junior-Senior High School office for all seniors. The PTSA will award seven scholarships this year, ranging from $300 to $800.
  • The annual Plant Sale will be held from March 18 to April 17 and plants may be picked up May 9. New additions to this year's sale include vegetables, herbs and more. For more information, contact Suzanne Vella at (631) 669-8294.
  • The PTSA is looking for a new President and Vice President (or Co-Presidents) for the 2013-2014 school year. If you or someone you know are interested, contact AnneMarie Martino at (631) 888-7766.
  • The PTSA's membership drive continues throughout March. Support helps fund the scholarships for graduating seniors – membership forms are available on the district website and to the right of this post.

As I explained, my post was made on behalf of another village resident. However, I did take theRead More time to read the statute and do have an independent viewpoint on this subject. While I do not feel that all dogs require a muzzle at all times, if you have a dog that you know to be a threat to other dogs or humans, you would have a duty to take measures to eliminate that threat before bring that dog into public. If that measure is a muzzle, then that's what must be done. As my post indicated, I believe strict enforcement would be exceedingly difficult and, perhaps, unnecessary (at least with respect to the muzzle requirement). However, a total lack of enforcement is dangerous and unacceptable. I think a little common sense goes a long way and I have confidence that those charged with enforcing the Village code could do so selectively. I understand that selective enforcement may be a concept that many feel uncomfortable with. However, just because the law requires a muzzle, that is hardly a reason to disregard it in its entirety and allow dogs with vicious propensities to roam around unleashed. I will leave it up to Village lawmakers to remove the muzzle requirement (and suggest that they do so) if that is what it would take to make people comfortable with the leash requirement.

Did you read the law? unless it be properly muzzled and effectively restrained by a chain or leashRead More I'll bet neither dog was muzzled Do you really want them to enforce this law
