Babylon Jr. High Spelling Champ Advances to LI Bee

Danish Farooq will in the Long Island Regional Spelling Bee on Feb. 9.

Babylon Junior High School seventh- and eighth-grade students recently had the chance to showcase their precise spelling skills when they took part in their English classrooms’ spelling bees this winter.

The 10 classroom winners then advanced to the school-wide bee. After several challenging rounds of competition, first-place honors went to Danish Farooq, who correctly spelled “encryption.” The bee’s runner-up was Olivia Berry.

As the school winner, Danish received a $25 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble and has qualified to compete in the Long Island Regional Spelling Bee on Feb. 9 at Hofstra University.
