Babylon School Board Notes: 4/8 Meeting

The school board passed a number of measures, including resignations and accepting a donation.

The Babylon School Board of Education held a public meeting at Babylon Junior-Senior High School on April 8 and passed several resolutions.

The following items were discussed by the Babylon School Board:

  • The board accepted the resignation of Babylon Elementary School principal Dana Basile effective July 1, 2013, wishing her the best in her future endeavors.
  • The board accepted the resignation of art teacher Linda Mielenhausen effective July 1, 2013, wishing her the best in a happy and healthy retirement.
  • The board appointed the Board of Education President, Dominic Bencivenga, to enter into an agreement with the School Constructions Consultant to provide construction management services.
  • The board approved Brian Kelly and Thomas McKenna as substitute teachers through June 30, 2013 with a per diem rate of pay of $90.00.
  • The board appointed Nancy Sharapata as the permanent chairperson of election to be held on May 21, 2013.
  • The board approved a waiver to award Regents Competency Test/local credit for diploma purposes to eligible students who score within the range of 55-64 percent on corresponding Regents exams.
  • The board accepted a donation of $5,500 from the Babylon Booster Club for a new scoreboard (sport and location to be determined) with appreciation.
  • The board approved a security services agreement between the district and Investigative Professionals, Inc. of New York City to provide addition security services through the end of the 2012-2013 school year.

The next board meeting will be held on May 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school for the budget hearing.
