Babylon Students Honored for Academic and Leadership Abilities

Maggie Griffo and Greg Dieterick are this year's Suffolk Zone award winners.

The Suffolk Zone Chapter of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance gives out an award to one male and one female senior from each school district in Suffolk County. Receiving the award for Babylon High School this year are Maggie Griffo and Greg Dieterick.

To receive the award, each senior has to have a 90 or higher average in PE; an overall GPA of at least 3.0 his or her junior year; have an outstanding character; be described as a leader in class activities and demonstrate the ability to accept responsibility for regular class tasks; be an officer in a school organization or club, a captain of a sports team and/or a volunteer for a support group such as the Special Olympics; and live a healthy lifestyle inside school as well as in the community.

The award will be given out Wednesday, December 7th at 6:45 pm at the Hyatt Regency Wind Watch and Golf Club in Hauppauge.
