BOE Race Features 5 Challengers, 1 Incumbent

Two tenured board members have decided to step down and six candidates are vying for four available seats on the Babylon School Board of Education.

The Babylon Board of Education at-large election season features five challengers and one incumbent vying for four seats on the seven-member board, and the decision by two current members not to seek re-election.

Babylon School Board President Henry Bjunes and trustee Judy Anderson, who is a former BOE president, did not file petitions and are not seeking re-election to a third three-year term. Both were elected to the school board in 2005.

The lone incumbent seeking another term is trustee Roger Katz.

Bjunes, Anderson and Katz were all up for re-election this year. The fourth board seat became available last month after Board Vice President Catherine Vokovich resigned.

This year’s BOE candidate slate includes Dominick Montalto, Gregory Antolini, Alena Berenblatt, John Savoca and Pauline Cimaszewski.
