BOE Seeks Public Input in Superintendent Search

School district asks parents, taxpayers to take a survey and has set two public forums for discussion.

The Babylon School Board is seeking input from residents regarding the search for a new district superintendent and has posted an online survey for parents and taxpayers to complete

“The Board of Education is interested in your input as it begins the process for hiring a new superintendent. This survey is designed to gather your views on the importance of various characteristics commonly found in effective superintendents,” states a letter to residents on the district’s website.

“The information will be considered by the Board as it determines the desired characteristics of our next superintendent,” states the notice.

Babylon's superintendent position has been open since the resignation of Dr. this past August. In March, Best-Laimit said she began considering retirement earlier in the year as she struggled to deal with her father’s illness.

The BOE is also hosting two community forums to get public input on the qualities and skills the public would like to have in a new school chief.
