Goldberg Named New Grade School Principal

Current Babylon HS Asst. Principal will take over new role effective July 1.

The Babylon Board of Education has appointed Steven Goldberg the new principal of the Babylon Memorial Grade School, replacing the outgoing Dr. Randee Bonagura on July 1.

Goldberg, the current Babylon Junior-Senior High School assistant principal, will resign from his position on June 30, as per district regulations when moving to a new position.

"He approved me with the desire to apply for the position soon after it was opened," Richard Rozakis, Superintendent of Babylon Schools, said at the school board meeting on Monday. "His years of leadership as Assistant Principal have prepared him for this. He has the leadership skills that are necessary."

The school board unanimously approved the resignation of Goldberg from his current post and appointment as new grade school principal.

Goldberg will be compensated $149,519 for the 2013-2014 school year. According to SeeThroughNY, his salary will increase roughly $5,000 from his 2012-2013 salary.

Dr. Bonagura announced her resignation at a board meeting in May, setting off a search for a new principal in the district for the second time this school year. The board recently replaced Babylon Elementary School principal Dana Basile, who also announced her resignation in April.
