HS Senior Achieves Eagle Scout Status

A local Babylon senior took an environmental protection approach in earning his scouting honor.

Babylon High School senior Kris Jansson has been awarded the highest scouting honor, the rank of Eagle Scout. Only around five percent of all Boy Scouts earned the Eagle Scout rank in 2010.

In addition to climbing through the ranks of the Boy Scouts, Jansson was required to complete a service project and several tasks in order to be named an Eagle Scout. To achieve this honor, Jansson cleared a creek located on street he lives, posted plaques instructing pedestrians not to “dump” in the local drainage areas, and installed bat boxes in his surrounding community.

“I was motivated to achieve this level of scouting after watching the other boys in my troop pass through to the rank of Eagle Scout,” stated Jansson. “I was also inspired to help out my community while achieving a recognition not held by many scouts.”
