JFK Elementary Students Explore Music at PEAK Festival

Students join music teacher at festival events including music and dance workshops.

Fourth-grade students Julie Cooke, Emily Duci and Kalley Olsen of John F. Kennedy Elementary School recently joined music teacher Debbie Cicogna at the SCMEA PEAK (Parents, Educators and Kids) music festival at Northport High School.

Festival participants comprised of students, parents and music teachers attended music and dance workshops throughout the day.

“Students had the opportunity to experience a fun day of learning new songs, dances and musical games along with their parents as partners,” said Cicogna. “It was truly wonderful to see the parents having so much fun singing and dancing with their children.”

Students were chosen by lottery from a pool of those who love music and demonstrate an ability to excel in music class. Throughout the day, fourth-grade students and their teachers were provided with opportunities to learn and experience music in a variety of unique ways.
