Fourth- and fifth-grade student council representatives at John F. Kennedy Elementary School have established a lasting friendships during their visits to the East Neck Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Babylon—walking distance from the school.
Students spend time with the residents of the center throughout the year, taking part in activities such as Halloween haunted houses and holiday carol singing.
“The students really get joy out of helping and visiting the senior citizens,” said co-student council adviser Melissa Joseph. “They get a sense of accomplishment that they have made others happy in their community. The senior citizens just adore the children, and love the company!”
