Patch Whiz Kid: Christian Amelia

Every week Patch puts the spotlight on a local Babylon Village student who has been honored and cited for his or her achievements.

Babylon High School Senior and Class of 2011 eighth-ranked scholar Christian Amelia knew he wanted a quality education and the opportunity to serve his country. This July, Christian will begin attending the United States Naval Academy as a part of their Class of 2015.

Acceptance into the academy is based on many of the same factors as other colleges and universities – academic record, involvement in extra-curricular activities – but also includes a rigorous screening process.

In addition to demonstrating a strong academic commitment, Amelia also needed to complete a trying physical fitness exam and receive recommendation from a local congressman in order to receive an invitation to the Academy. He began this process at the end of his junior year and is now eager to begin his studies at the Academy. Following graduation, Amelia will be put on five-year active duty with the Navy.
