Patch Whiz Kids: Noah Lessing, Ellen Murphy

This week's Patch Whiz Kids were nominated by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance as Suffolk Zone Award winners

This week's Patch Whiz Kids were nominated by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance as Suffolk Zone Award winners.

The Suffolk Zone Chapter of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance honors one male and one female student from each school district in Suffolk County who meet established criteria for outstanding physical education achievement. In addition to this requirement, winners are expected to maintain scholastically sound academic records, display outstanding character, be a leader in physical education and schoolwide activities, and serve as a role model for their peers.

Ellen Murphy

Murphy, who will be attending SUNY Geneseo in the fall, is an all-around academic scholar and student-athlete. She is a member of the high school’s Class Cabinet, Student Council, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, and competes on the school’s DECA Team, for which she recently received first place in the “job interview” category at the Regional DECA competition. She is also a member of the school’s orchestra, volunteers for a variety of local organizations, and has garnered several awards, including being named an Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor earlier this year. She is a two-season athlete who competes on the school’s soccer and lacrosse teams.

Lessing, who will be attending Washington & Lee University in Virginia where he will be playing lacrosse, has been on the principal’s list with honors since the ninth grade and is a member of the school National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and National Science Honor Society. He participated in the National Young Leaders Conference during his junior year and is a dedicated volunteer for several local organizations. He has competed on the high school’s lacrosse and soccer teams since the ninth grade and is a member of the building’s DECA and Math Teams.
