Photo of the Day: Students Show Off Financial Savvy

Local Babylon students were recently honored for their financial and business acumen.

Babylon High School students not only continue to achieve academically in the classroom, but have demonstrated their vast business education knowledge during local, regional, and even national competitions this year.

Competing against peers from across the country, 60 Babylon High School students participated in this year’s National Financial Capability Challenge sponsored by the U.S. Treasury Department to test the financial literacy of high school students.

With more than 84,000 high school business students having competed in this year’s competition, the students from Babylon yielded several impressive results. They include:

  • 19 out of 60 students who participated placed in the top 10% in the Nation. 54 out of 60 placed in the top 20%.
  • 5 students from Babylon had perfect scores out of a total of 20 perfect scores in the state of New York. These students are Carl Budhram, Sarah Grosser, Noah Lessing, John Sutherland, and Kayla Yantz.
  • Lloyd Ippolito is 1 out of 25 students in the nation that will be awarded with a $1,000 scholarship by the U.S. Treasury Department for the combination of his score of 98 and his timely completion of the online exam.
  • The Babylon Business Department is 1 out of 20 departments in the nation that will be awarded a $1,000 grant for excellence in financial education.
