Preview: 11th Annual Soccer Under the Lights Games

Babylon HS' varsity soccer squads will take the field on October 12th in honor of volunteer Randy Zwerlein.

The Randy Zwerlein Under the Lights Committee, in association with the Babylon Booster Club, will host the 11th Annual Soccer Under the Lights Games this Friday, October 12th.

The game, which features a boys soccer matchup and a girls soccer game, honors the spirit of volunteerism of Randy Zwerlein, who died of cancer in January 2002. The event will celebrate its eleventh year on this Friday.

Zwerlein was the husband of Babylon Memorial Grade School fifth grade teacher Rayna Zwerlein, and the father of two children who attended Babylon Village schools: Cory, now 27, and Amanda, now 25.

Zwerlein was active in the Babylon Soccer Club, the Babylon Lions Club, and was also a big part of an organization called COMPASS, which was a high-school-based group of parents dedicated to keeping our youth safe.

“Randy’s life and passion was children and youth sports and volunteerism,” said Rayna to Patch at last year's event. “Randy was not so different from the wonderful members volunteering tonight. They are in many places, making this village what it is."

The event will take place at the Panthers' home field at the high school starting at 4:30 p.m. for the boys game and 7:30 p.m. for the girls game.
