School Board Sends Bond Proposal to Referendum

Registered voters in the district will vote over $26.6M proposal in December.

The Babylon School Board unanimously approved the selection of a date for the bond construction referendum, officially sending their $26.6 million plan to hands of Babylon voters later this year.

The district will hold a special district meeting for the vote on the proposed bond on December 10 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Babylon Memorial Grade School.

The proposed bond resolution was unveiled to the public in a completed form last week with a price tag of $26.6 million to repair the district's three buildings, renovate various classrooms throughout the buildings and included the installation of new artificial turf fields at Babylon Junior-Senior High School, including a full-size soccer field.

New tennis courts were also displayed as being moved to the Grade School to allow for more general-purpose athletic space outside of the high school.

A meeting last week displayed the current problems found in each building, each needing a new roof to replace their original 1965 versions, plumbing and electrical upgrades and other issues that were considered high priority by the district's architect, Roger Smith of BBS Architecture.

The vote was passed unanimously by the entire seven-member board.
