As part of a literacy studies on non-fiction, Babylon Elementary School kindergarten students in Jennifer Brooks’ class penned their own non-fiction stories about aquatic animals. Seeking inspiration from a recent trip to the Riverhead aquarium, the students utilized the lessons they learned as part of the school’s literacy collaborative program to develop and publish creative stories. Working through the writing process, the students created multiple drafts of their stories, created corresponding illustrations, and proudly showed off their finalized stories during an in-class publishing party.
