Teacher of the Year: Frank Procaccini

Babylon high school social studies teacher earns top accolade and award from American Legion Post 94.

Babylon High School social studies teacher Frank Procaccini, an educator in the district for 42 years, is this year's recipient of the 'Teacher of the Year' honor bestowed by the Babylon American Legion Post Number 94.

“I believe this is a fitting honor for him…Mr. Procaccini is an institution at Babylon High School," wrote Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ellen Best-Laimit in her nomination letter.

During his time in Babylon, Procaccini taught American History and was responsible in to helping to start the school’s Advanced Placement (AP) United States History course.

“In the last 25 years I have not only had students of former students but this year I had my first third generation of a Babylon family,” said Procaccini. “I have truly loved my time in Babylon and working with all of the wonderful students throughout the years.” He plans to retire this June.

“I could not think of a more deserving recipient of this award than Frank Procaccini,” stated Social Studies Department Director Mark Malaszczyk.

“He has been a role model to both students and staff at Babylon High School throughout the entire course of his 42-year career. Frank is the patriarch of the social studies department; he played an integral role in molding me into the educator that I am today. I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to have worked with him over the course of these past two decades, and I wish him a happy, healthy retirement. He has left his indelible mark on this school community.”
