W. Babylon Student Among Island's Best Young Artists

High school sophomore artist's piece one of only 80 selected for display.

West Babylon Senior High School 10th-grader Stephanie Scagnelli's photograph "Like the Blue Wind" was recently selected for exhibition in Long Island's Best Young Artists at the Heckscher Museum.

The opening reception was held on April 6 and the show ran until April 21. A total of 49 public and private schools submitted student artwork for Long Island's Best. Of the 288 entries that were received, only 80 pieces were selected for display by curator Lisa Chalif.

Each student chose specific works of art from among the museum’s exhibitions to inspire his or her own original creation. Stephanie opted for Margery Caggiano's “Blue Bulb” and George Hitchcock's “In Wind Mill Lane” as her sources of inspiration.
