W. Babylon Students Explore Aquatic Life
Second-graders learn all about the species that live in our local waters, including crabs and starfish.
Second-grade students of Santapogue Elementary School in the West Babylon School District recently enjoyed a visit from members of the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County.
During the annual visit, the biologists shared with students a variety of sea life found in the oceans and bays of Long Island, such as starfish and horseshoe crabs.
In support of the second-grade science curriculum that explores animal life and habitats, students were provided with a hands-on opportunity to obtain facts and information about the marine life.
“This is a great way to learn,” said second-grader Jessica. “It was really fun to see the animals and even better to be able to touch them.”
