Babylon Lady Panthers' Soccer, Volleyball Take Suffolk Crowns

Babylon takes home two championship and both teams play Tuesday for Long Island title.

The Babylon Panthers (13-3-1) girls soccer team edged the top-seeded Center Moriches Lady Red Devils, 1-0, on November 9th at Center Moriches High School to win the Suffolk Class B title.

Babylon, heading into the game ranked Number two in the Suffolk Class B bracket, snapped a scoreless tie with 25 minutes left in the second half when junior striker Shelby Fredericks found the back of the net on a crisp feed from Carolanne Murphy, scoring the game's only goal

Senior goalkeeper Hannah McGlinchey made 17 saves for her fifth shutout of the season and first of the playoffs. 

The Lady Panthers will take the field later today, Tuesday, November 13th at Dowling College to face the Nassau County Champions Cold Spring Harbor at 3 p.m.

Volleyball

The Lady Panthers varsity volleyball team also kept up Babylon's winning ways with a victory over Greenport to win the Suffolk County Class C title.

The Panthers (16-2), ranked number one in their division this season, had a great game from Nicole Marro, Mary Tighe and Lizzy Tighe as Babylon took home another volleyball title.

The Panthers take on the Nassau County Class C champs, Oyster Bay, on Tuesday, November 13th at 4:30 p.m. at Carle Place High School.

As I explained, my post was made on behalf of another village resident. However, I did take theRead More time to read the statute and do have an independent viewpoint on this subject. While I do not feel that all dogs require a muzzle at all times, if you have a dog that you know to be a threat to other dogs or humans, you would have a duty to take measures to eliminate that threat before bring that dog into public. If that measure is a muzzle, then that's what must be done. As my post indicated, I believe strict enforcement would be exceedingly difficult and, perhaps, unnecessary (at least with respect to the muzzle requirement). However, a total lack of enforcement is dangerous and unacceptable. I think a little common sense goes a long way and I have confidence that those charged with enforcing the Village code could do so selectively. I understand that selective enforcement may be a concept that many feel uncomfortable with. However, just because the law requires a muzzle, that is hardly a reason to disregard it in its entirety and allow dogs with vicious propensities to roam around unleashed. I will leave it up to Village lawmakers to remove the muzzle requirement (and suggest that they do so) if that is what it would take to make people comfortable with the leash requirement.
