Lady Panthers Fall Short in OT Thriller

Babylon HS girls soccer team loses 1-0 to Cold Spring Harbor in Class B Long Island title game.

The Babylon Lady Panthers' varsity soccer season came to a dramatic end in a 1-0 loss to Cold Spring Harbor in a double overtime at Dowling College in Shirley on Tuesday.

The county Class B champions played out the original 80 minutes of the game to a complete shutout, with neither team affording either too many close scoring opportunities throughout.

A single 10-minute overtime was played to more 0s on the scoreboard before, with about three minutes remaining, Cold Spring Harbor's Alicia Roy was able to nail a free kick just over the reach of Babylon goalie Hannah McGlinchey for the game's only score.

The Lady Panthers drove hard at the opponents' net for the final minutes, but were unable to get the ball past the goalie. Cold Spring Harbor will move on to the state playoffs.

McGlinchey was the star of the game, stopping 19 out of 20 attempts on the goal through 100 minutes of the game, including a few all-out full body dives to prevent the ball from hitting the net.
