E. Northport Teen Takes First-Place in Dirty Sock Run

Babylon Village's first resident crosses four minutes after first-place winner.

Over 640 runners took part in the Babylon Village Classic 10k Race, also known as the Dirty Sock Run, which takes runners through Southard's Pond and Argyle Park for 10,000 meters.

The race, hosted by the Babylon Rotary Club, was the largest in recent memory with 645 runners finishing the race.

East Northport teenager Michael Brannigan won the race in a record 32:48, paced at a blazing five-minutes and 17 seconds. The teen, who runs track and field at his high school, was over a minute ahead of the next closest competitor.

Babylon Village's first runner came in eight place as Luke Merz, a 20 year old resident, finished the course in 36:05.

The first woman to cross the finish line this year was Betsy Eickelberg, a 21 year old from Leonia, New Jersey. She finished 26th over all at 39:40.

The race reportedly raised over $10,000 for The clergy Cluster Food Pantries.
