High Praise for Panthers' Lacrosse Standouts

Girls' lacrosse program achieves multiple firsts in program history during 2013 season.

In addition to beginning named the number one scholar-athlete team on Long Island and the fourth in New York State, as well as 2013 Division II champions, several Babylon High School varsity lacrosse players garnered individual honors this competition season.

For the first time in Babylon history, a team member was named a 2013 U.S. Lacrosse All-American. Shelby Fredericks was selected for this honor in recognition of her talent on the lacrosse field. This distinction is bestowed upon those athletes considered to be the best in the nation.

Shelby has been a four-time All-County competitor and an All-Tournament player. She has also been a member of the MSG Varsity All-Tristate Team, the Under Armour Long Island Team and the first Long Island School Girls Team.

This honor is given to juniors and seniors who possess an academic average of 90 percent or higher, maintain a course load with more than half consisting of Advancement Placement, honors or college preparatory rankings, are starters who play 90 percent of a game, and have made significant contributions to their school and community beyond athletics.

Kerry and Hallie, along with lacrosse players Shannon Hartigan and Megan Nerney, were named this year’s All-Division players, ranking them in the top five percent of their division. Shelby, Kaileen and Devyn Antolini were named All-County players, recognizing them as being among the top one percent of lacrosse players in the county. Emily Guerra was given the Unsung Hero award from the Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Foundation.
