In-Conference Basketball Season Under Way for Panthers

Babylon's varsity squads pull off victories over Hampton Bays to start in-conference season.

The Babylon Panthers are heading into the Winter sports season coming off perhaps one of the best all-around varsity school seasons with Long Island Championships in football and girls' volleyball and various other accolades.

Now as the winter winds blow in, basketball season is underway with both the boys and girls varsity squads pulling off victories in their first in-conference games of the season, both against Hampton Bays.

Boys Basketball

The boys' squad started with a strong showing out at Hampton Bays High School on December 14th, taking down the Baymen 48-36.

The Panthers led at the end of every quarter, slowly increasing their lead as they went along. Out on the court, it was business as usual as Fernando Vazquez (18 pts, two three-pointers) and Jake Carlock (14 pts, two three-pointers) led the squad.

Brendan Laing and Ray Wardell also chipped in 8 points a piece.

Babylon improves to 2-1 on the season, 1-0 in Suffolk League VII.

Girls Basketball

The girls' squad kept it together in a tough game against the Lady Baymen at Babylon High School on December 14th, winning 55-48.

The game remained tight, with Babylon leading by only one or two points throughout the game before busting through to a larger lead during the fourth quarter.

Devyn Antolini led Babylon in scoring with 13 points, 6 of them coming on free throws. Margot Zamet had a double-double, putting away 10 points and bringing down 12 rebounds.

The Lady Panthers improved to 2-3 overall on the season, and 1-0 in Suffolk League VII.
