Your Forecast for the Fourth of July

Warm weather will continue to build over the South Shore and bring with it nature's version of fireworks – thunder and lightning.

The South Shore of Long Island will be celebrating the United States of America's 236th birthday with sweltering conditions building throughout July 4th.

Forecasts for the early morning have the chance of thunderstorms rolling through the area at around 60 percent and dropping throughout the morning until around noon. Temperatures will start at around 71 degrees at sunrise and climb throughout the morning.

High noon will bring back the threat of more thunderstorms throughout the day, although more isolated. With high humidity in place, any developing storms will have the potential to be severe with thunder and lightning a real possibility. Keep your eyes on the sky – if you see any large dark clouds moving in your direction, head for safety and don't risk it. Temperatures will continue soaring in the afternoon with the National Weather Service forecasting a high of 92 in North Babylon around 3:00pm.

As the sun sets, the atmosphere will finally give us a bit of a break with temperatures dipping into the mid-80s as firework shows begin to start. There is still a 30 percent chance for a storm up until around 10:00pm, so be prepared if you see flashes of light not coming from exploding displays.
