Babylon Chefs Are Cooking for a Cause

The 13th Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition fundraiser dinner will take place on May 10 at the Venetian Yacht Club.

A cross-section of chefs from Babylon Village restaurants are putting their culinary forces in play to raise funds for the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition on May 10 by participating in  the annual Chefs for a Cause event at the Venetian Yacht Club.

The coalition has been organizing the event for 13 years, and the opportunity to sample specially-crafted dishes from a variety of chefs has proven a popular draw. The event will also feature live music, desserts, and local wine and beer.

The participating restaurant list reads like a Babylon dining directory: appetizers and entrees will be provided by The Greek Garden, Babylon Fish & Clam Bar, Shiki, Argyle Grill & Tavern, Babylon Village Meats, Cafe Il Villaggio, Barrique, Glen's Dinette, Gino's Pizzeria, Lily Flanagan's, Lucy's, Horace & Sylvia's, Carriage House, Gemelli Ristorante, Post Office Cafe, The Hook, Venetian Yacht Club, and Armadillo Grille. Morgan's Bay, Torta Fina, and Madame Butterfly will furnish desserts.

"This is one of our premiere events and one of our biggest fundraisers," said Carol Amelia, executive coordinator at the coalition and one of the chairpersons for the event along with Eileen Molly.

All the money raised will benefit the coalition's community outreach, including a Lend a Helping Hand program which provide practical, daily help like rides to doctor's appointments and house cleaning for those affected by breast and gynecologic cancers.

The coalition also sponsors scholarships, provides assistance to families who have lost a loved one to the disease, and organizes an eight-week exercise training program, called Pink Ribbon, for patients recovering from breast cancer treatments.

The Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition was founded in 1993 and has since developed a number of programs to help Town of Babylon residents diagnosed with breast and other reproductive cancers. The Coalition holds a number of events to raise awareness and fundraise throughout the year.
