Two West Babylon ShopRite Employees Honored on Cheerios Box

The local supermarket won a contest to raise the most money to fight hunger.

Susan Galligan and Rachel diSanza, from West Babylon, were chosen by their coworkers at the West Babylon ShopRite to be featured on a special edition Cheerios box, to be sold in ShopRite stores for a limited time. The Partners In Caring contest, sponsored by General Mills and ShopRite, was a month-long initiative to raise $1 million during National Hunger Awareness Month in September.

West Babylon was one of 45 stores chosen for their dedication to the effort. Store employees collected donations at checkout and in-store events. The store was awarded $500 to donate to a hunger-fighting charity of its choice, Long Island Cares.

A ceremony was held at the store, on March 29th, to congratulate employees and reveal the limited edition Cheerios box. Susan Galligan, one of the two honored employees, passed away late last year and her family attended the unveiling in her honor.
