Heat Wave Expected to Break Over the Weekend

Sweet relief is on its way in the form of a 10 degree swing this weekend.

Just hold on another day, Long Island – the heat is finally going to turn it down a notch.

The heat wave which has pushed thermometers to their ends as high's soared into the mid-90's is expected to finally break over the weekend, bringing with it temperatures some 10 degrees lower.

Saturday will mark the last full day of the ridiculous heat, with high's pushing 90 degrees for the sixth straight day over the island. The heat, however, will not linger too long.

An approaching cold front will dramatically shift temperatures downwards, bringing with it heavy and potentially severe thunderstorms as the pressure-cooker finally gets booted out to sea. Behind the cold front, high's are expected to struggle to even get to 80 degrees.

The thunderstorms on Saturday evening are expected to bring a great amount of rain, along with potential high winds and lightning as the unstable air masses combat each other overhead.

Forecasted highs for Sunday and Monday are 81 and 80 degrees, respectively. Night-time temperatures will also see relief, with lows dropping into the mid-60's after 9 p.m.
