Fire Island Lighthouse

The current Fire Island Lighthouse, which was built in 1858, is close to the  site of the originalMore structure built in  1826 on what's now Fire Island National Seashore property on  Robert Moses Causeway. Its light, which is located 167 feet above the level of the sea, can be seen for over than 20 miles away and is a welcome site for Great South Bay boaters.   

The Lighthouse is on the western part of Fire Island National Seashore, next to Robert Moses State Park, and offers exhibits, a nature trail, interpretive programs and curriculum-based fourth grade education programs . Visitors can walk to the lighthouse on a wide and open pathway.  The lighthouse is maintained by the Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society in cooperation with the  National Park Service.

Captree State Park is on the eastern tip of Jones Beach in Long Island. This park is in the heart of the fishing groundsMore and features a boat basin. Charter boats are available for fishing, excursions, sightseeing and scuba diving. There are picnic areas available, as well as a playground.
