The Hesperus Sets Sail For Texas

Nautical antique shop closes up Babylon location and heads for the deep south.

The Hesperus has set sail and headed for new grounds as the antique shop has closed up in Babylon Village.

The formerly filled showroom at 55 Deer Park Avenue was dark and vacant on Thursday morning, as the store’s owners have reportedly closed up the sea-themed antique shop.

According to AroundBabylon blogger Aaron Stein, the shop owners packed up the store and left overnight.

Coastal Treasures owner Walter “Wally” Levins wrote on AroundBabylon that his shop would continue to carry some of the Hesperus’ items and any items villagers were looking to purchase could be passed along through him.

“They are relocating to Texas and are moving there wholesale operation as well, of course,” he wrote on AroundBabylon. “Their business here was primarily a wholesale business, which is, in part, why they were not open all that frequently.”

He added: “We will continue to work with Munira and wish them the best in there[sic] new location.”

The shop might not be empty for too long – Molto Vino owner Massimiliano Gargiulo announced his intentions to expand his wine bar into the current Solo Vino wine shop, which would move into the now vacant former antique storefront, during a recent public hearing.
