The Lite Choice Reopens After Eight-Month Hiatus

Frozen yogurt and ice cream shop back in business as owners recover from Sandy.

Babylon Village has continued to recover from Hurricane Sandy, especially with a recent business reopening after its owners were impacted by the storm.

The Lite Choice, an ice cream and yogurt shop on the southwest corner of West Main Street and Fire Island Avenue, has reopened after a nearly eight-month closure.

The owners announced the reopening on June 26 on their Facebook page.

"As many of you know, due to Sandy we lost power and all inventory in the store. Additionally our home was flooded forcing us to relocate," they wrote. "We are happy to announce we finally moved back home and reopened the store this past weekend."

They added: "Thank you in advance for your patronage and support in helping us recoup from the effects of Sandy. We apologize for any inconveniences."

In celebration of the reopening, the store is offering a grand re-opening buy one get one free deal.

A hand-written sign was affixed to the storefront soon after the hurricane struck in late October noting that the owners had been hit hard by the storm and were not going to be able to reopen the dessert shop until the spring.

The storefront, featured on the business district's main intersection, had been quiet and dark, a noticeable mark on the usually lit up and busy area.

The business, formerly known as D'Lites when it opened in May 2011, changed its name last year in May and became a part of The Lite Choice franchise. The Lite Choice offers low-calorie soft serve ice cream that can be customized with various flavors, coffee drinks, smoothies, and cakes.
