Dolan: Ensure a Better Future for Babylon Town

In a race to replace a lifelong Babylon Village resident at the head of the Suffolk County Legislature, two men from Lindenhurst have stepped up to campaign for the now opened seat – Republican Kevin McCaffrey and the newcomer, Democrat Tom Dolan.

Dolan, a lifelong Lindenhurst resident, launched his campaign on Monday afternoon at Lindenhurst’s Venetian Shores Park, noting his lack of governmental experience but also his experience at helping plan a fiscally safe future for businesses and families throughout the community.

“I think its important, especially with what’s going on, fiscally that we take a look at things to make sure they’re more effective,” Dolan told PatchI. “I think we have to look to have people [employees] contribute towards health insurance and things like that so we can lower the burden on taxpayers. That’s really what I’m looking for.”

The fiscal planner has lived in Lindenhurst his entire life, and continues to raise his two sons in the village. He is also a vice president on the Lindenhurst Football and Cheerleading League, where he coaches some of the teams. And while he’s a popularly known name around Lindenhurst, Dolan noted he’s not an unknown in other parts of the 14th District.

“I do have connections in West Babylon and Babylon Village, even as a lifelong Lindenhurst resident. I look at those areas as extended family, especially through working with little leagues, I’ve gotten to know many people around our surrounding communities,” he said.

As far as the usual political mudslinging that goes on during the heat of a campaign, Dolan showed little interest in taking any shots at his opponent.

“Two Bulldogs and two Irishmen... I know Kevin’s been around in the community. I’ve got nothing bad to say about him,” he said to Patch. “I’m going to go out and get people involved. We’re getting people registered. We’re going to stay focused on that – the excitement, and keep moving forward.”

The Democratic candidate is running on the Schaffer Team ticket this fall, and was given support by current Legislator Wayne Horsley, Schaffer and County Executive Steve Bellone.

“I want to make the right decisions for the future of Suffolk County and ensure a better future for the residents of Babylon,” he said during the opening speech. “I have always dedicated myself to improving my community through my job, volunteering and through raising my family.
“With your help, I’d like to continue my work to improve our community as our next county legislator.”

Election Day will take place later this year in November.
